WFFL Team

Everything for players on our Women's Flag Football League teams: the season, signing up with BAFA, what we expect, the roster, kit and reffing.

WFFL season overview

Season
3 October 2026 – March 2027.
Game days
Once or twice a month, usually Saturdays. See the full schedule.
Location
Around the UK, typically Loughborough, Coventry or outer London. Players arrange their own travel; car shares are encouraged.

BAFA registration

Register for the WFFL season on bafa.justgo.com by following the JustGo signup guide. Buy the £40 women's flag membership and choose London Flame or London Blaze as your team.

Team kit

Check existing numbers on the roster. Order kit any time from our Nuola store. What to wear on gameday is in Kit.

Training attendance

  • Attend at least 50% of pre-scheduled trainings (5+ sessions).
  • “Tentative” or bonus trainings also count toward your attendance.
  • Grace is given for missed training due to other football commitments (GB team, contact) and health or family reasons.
  • Calls: at least one strategy call is scheduled before each game day. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if it's relevant to you, watch the recording and ask questions. Recordings are uploaded to Google Drive.

Gamedays

  • Attendance polls are sent before each game day. Please respond promptly.
  • If you can't attend, tell the coaches as early as possible.

Game day structure

A typical game day has about 3 games played and 2 games refereed.

Reffing is mandatory. Each player must referee at least 2 games per season, and most players ref once per game day. Get familiar with the referee cheat sheet.

Gameday rosters

  • A poll goes out in the team chat to confirm availability before each game day.
  • Rosters are announced one week before game day, listing starters, rotational players and reserves. Wait for this before booking travel.
  • Players not on the roster, or listed as reserve, are welcome to come and support but aren't required to.

JustGo signup

How to register with BAFA and join London Smoke (our parent club), so you can be added to the Flame or Blaze roster.

New to JustGo

If you've never used JustGo, or you aren't part of another JustGo club (mixed, youth or contact):

  1. Go to bafa.azolve.com and click “Sign up”.
  2. Fill in your information and accept the terms. You should land on your profile page.
  3. Click “MY CLUBS” to open the club finder. You're looking for our parent club, London Smoke.
  4. Click “Select club”, then search for London Smoke, our overall parent club name.
  5. Click the red icon and you should see London Smoke. Click “Select Club”.
  6. It will show as Pending approval, and one of the admins gets an email to approve it.
  7. Meanwhile you can still buy your team membership, as long as you aren't already in another club. Open the sidebar with the menu icon at the top left.
  8. Click “Membership”.
  9. Choose Player (or Coaches and staff if appropriate).
  10. Scroll right to find Women's flag and click it so it says “Selected”. Then scroll down and fill in your information.
  11. At the team selection dropdown, pick the right team from our club. If it isn't there, you may need to wait until your club join request is approved.
  12. If you can select your team and click “Finish”, you're all set.

Already in another club

  1. Log in and find your BAFA membership number: the 6-digit number on your profile page. In this example it's 430918.
  2. Email [email protected] with that number and ask them to add you to London Smoke club in addition to your other clubs. CC [email protected] so we can see it.

You can't join through the club finder because the site won't let you join more than one club, but BAFA can add it on the admin side.

You can also request a transfer from your old club, which you should do if it was a women's flag team. It's still easiest to ask BAFA to transfer you by email.

If you can't get into your account, email BAFA and ask them to reset your password and transfer you. Include your full name.

Troubleshooting

Start at bafa.justgo.com/Workbench.mvc/Show/5?Tab=3, which should take you to the Membership page. Choose Player and see what you have.

The team dropdown often doesn't work on mobile. Turn your phone sideways (landscape), refresh the page, then try the dropdown again. This almost always works. If not, try on a computer.

Team expectations & attitude

Positive energy & team spirit

  • We win as a team and support each other, on and off the field.
  • Accountability matters, but we discourage blaming others or yourself. The best thing you can do for the team is stay focused on the next play.

Development & contribution

  • Every member is critical to the team's goals. Your development matters, and so does your support.
  • Cheer on the team, celebrate wins, and make teammates feel welcome and challenged.
  • Take an active role in your own learning. Ask questions, watch film, and attend training and meetings.

Communication & conflict

  • If you're unhappy with something, such as playing time or development, speak to the coaches between games or after game days, or to captains between game days. Please don't raise it during games.
  • As competitive teams, coaches own decisions about playing time, and no one is entitled to it. In return, we publish the roster ahead of time, and you aren't penalised for choosing not to attend to save travel costs.
  • Physical or verbal aggression towards players, referees, coaches or opposition won't be tolerated and may result in a fine or penalty. Conflict is handled respectfully between drives, games or gamedays.
  • Don't argue with referees, or loudly express frustration where officials can hear, on the field or the sideline. Only captains and coaches may discuss calls with referees.
  • Raise conflicts, issues or concerns with the captains first, or with the nominated safeguarding lead (Meghann MacDonald) if appropriate (see the safeguarding policy), or another coach you're most comfortable with.

We prioritise transparent, respectful and open communication, and we're open to discussing anything with the goal of growing as a club and team.

London Smoke mixed teams roster: Notion.

Kit

London Flame & Blaze kit. Order from the Nuola team store; see the images below for fit and sizing.

Numbers
Once players are selected for a team, numbers are first come, first served. See taken numbers on the roster. Returning players can keep their previous number automatically, or switch at the same time as everyone else picks.
Kit
A kit order may be organised at the start of the season. Any other time, buy the top from the resources link. If you can't, or would like to borrow a spare, speak to Meghann MacDonald.

What to wear on gameday

  • Black bottoms only: plain black, the London Smoke black & orange shorts, or the Flame-designed shorts (coming soon).
  • Pockets must zip, or bottoms must have no pockets, to protect against broken fingers while flag grabbing.
  • Boots must have plastic moulds/studs, not metal.
  • Mouth guards are highly recommended, as is head protection such as Sysemik, Gamebreaker or similar headbands.
